Following an undergraduate degree from Boston College, Karla Tewes moved to New York City and embarked on a successful 8 year career with Calvin Klein and Donna Karan which offered the opportunity to travel extensively and live abroad. In 2001, Karla decided to pursue her ultimate passion, Interior Design. Graduating from the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) in 2003, Karla founded Tewes Design. In addition to working with her own clients, she has also worked for Scott Ageloff, dean of NYSID and a prominent New York architect.
In 2007, Karla became a professionally licensed Interior Designer by passing the NCIDQ examination which is recognized worldwide and with this she is now a professional member of ASID.
Karla grew up in the South and has traveled extensively around the world throughout her life. Her travels have offered a keen sense of different cultures and style and serve as constant inspiration and influence on Karla's designs.
Understanding the importance and personal nature of designing interiors, Karla welcomes as much or little input from her clients as they are comfortable with. Trust is key in this process and Karla strives to nurture a relationship with each client and each space that she creates.
The creative process is meant to be fun and fulfilling. Whether it is designing a raw space into a livable one, renovating an existing space to make it more functional, selecting furnishings or just repositioning existing items, Karla takes as much pride in the smallest change as she does the biggest. It is all a process, one that client and designer embark on together as a team.
